Introduction to the Programme

This advanced diploma provides a computing qualification to recognise the achievement of advanced level knowledge and skills, in a specialised area of computing – Multimedia or Computer Support.  These optional specialist strands, available in Multimedia and Computer Support provide an opportunity for graduates to work at an advanced level in their chosen major.

This diploma provides a computing qualification to recognise the achievement of high level knowledge and skills, typically in a specialised area. It is ideally suited to people who are working in a particular area in the industry who want recognition for their skills.

People with this qualification will have a high level of understanding of particular computer industry concepts and/or be able to work in particular roles within the industry, as indicated by their Record of Learning.

Qualification requirements

This qualification is awarded to people who have achieved 120 credits at level 5 or above of which:

ü           a minimum of 80 credits are from the Computing sub-field at level 7

Included in these 80 credits are optional specialist strands where a minimum 36 of the 80 credits are from one of the following domains:

Qualifications

This National Diploma is awarded to people who have achieved 120 New Zealand National Qualification Framework Unit Standard Credits, of which 80 credits are at Level 7. This is 1 year of full time study of 36 weeks.

The following internationally recognised external Certification examinations are also available and the costs are not included in the programme fees:

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE): For IT professionals who want to demonstrate their technical expertise in designing and implementing business solutions based on the Windows platform and Windows Server system
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA): For IT professionals who want to demonstrate their technical expertise managing and troubleshooting system environments running on Windows operating systems
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA): For IT professionals who want to demonstrate their technical expertise designing, implementing, and administering SQL Server 2000 databases
  • CCNA: Cisco Certified Network Associate

Advanced topics studied in this year

In one of the specialised areas of either Multimedia or Computer Support:

Multimedia:

  • Animation, graphics, and digitising video, sound and images for multimedia applications

OR

Computer Support:

  • Advanced technical skills in hardware, software and networking.

Entry Criteria:

The programme is suited for candidates who have a sound knowledge of computer hardware and software.

  • Students must be at least 18 years old prior to the commencement of the program
  • Have successfully completed at least 3 years of secondary education
  • English language competency to IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550 or sit Regent’s English Entry Test
  • Have successfully completed the National Diploma in Computing Level 6 or equivalent.
  • Each applicant’s skills may be individually assessed.

All international learners must comply with the requirements of the New Zealand Immigration Service.
